This bar has definitely made it onto my top 5 list for San Diego. Fairweather is a vibrant and fun speakeasy-style bar adjacent to Petco Park. And when I say adjacent, I mean it is tucked onto a rooftop with a view of the park (!). This tropical oasis is, of course, one of Consortium Holding’s creations. Without a street sign or a marked entrance, the bar is made even cooler by the fact that you have to try and find your way to the roof

The vibrant colors, bright tiles, and living plant wall create a summery vibe in the middle of downtown. The best part, however, is their fun tiki-inspired drink list. During happy hour, Mai Tais, Piña Coladas, and other fun cocktails are $7, and come in crazy fun glasses complete with paper umbrellas. It doesn’t hurt that their tropical concoctions are some of the best around, too. And if there’s a baseball game going on, there is no better spot in the city to watch. You feel like you are a part of the game without the price of a ticket (and over priced cocktails!) At this point, I’m pretty sure Consortium Holdings can do no wrong. This is definitely a must try spot in San Diego (if you can find it!)

TGIF! This girl is soo happy it’s Friday. Last weekend was so much fun that it made this week a bit of a drag. But no worries, because the weekend is here! Which means it is cocktail time (favorite part of the week).

I must confess, I was feeling a little uninspired this week when it came to creating a cocktail. I usually have an ingredient or cocktail glass that really drives me to create a certain recipe, but I came up empty this week. So, I decided to be creative and come up with something entirely original. Kombucha is one of my favorite refreshers during the day, because its sparkling and contains so many goodies. When I saw kumquats at the grocery store, I figured this K & K pair would make a great cocktail! And who doesn’t love a cocktail that’s good for you too?! I am so happy with the results. The slight bitterness of the kumquats balances perfectly with the kombucha, creating a super yummy and refreshing ‘tail. Try it out, and let me know what you think!

Kombucha Kumquat Cocktail (serves 2)

8 Kumquats, halved

1/2 of a Lime

1 oz. Simple syrup

5 oz. Vodka

16 oz. Kombucha (Healthade original flavor)

Ice

Muddle kumquat halves, lime wedges, and simple syrup in a large glass or shaker. Add vodka and kombucha, stir well. Strain mixture into two glasses filled with ice. Garnish with kumquats, rosemary, or any other greenery.

Cheers!

Can I just start by saying how cool this place is?! The Coffee & Tea Collective and Juice Saves shops share an open warehouse-style space in the middle of East Village (which suits them perfectly). The spot is perfectly split down the middle; a clean and modern barista bar is set up on the left, while a fun geometric space filled with cleverly named juices sits to the right. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, so we tried their cold brew coffee on tap as well as a sparking lavender lemon tea. And yes, they were both perfect. I would love to venture to the juice counter next time, and try the fresh pressed Aloe Vera Wang or Mango Unchained (told you they were clever).

Before you even walk in, the place is instagram worthy. Yes, I was the one getting up from my stool in the middle of the shop about 10,000 times to take a picture from a new angle. The two shops are run by Consortium Holdings, which is very obvious if you’ve been to any of their other San Diego spots. The CH group creates the coolest bars, restaurants, and speakeasies in San Diego, and each one is completely unique and inventive. Basically, if you find yourself in awe of your surroundings next time you’re having happy hour in San Diego, the place is probably  CH owned. Their bars and eateries have become our all time faves since moving down here, and these two little places have definitely been added to the list.

I love rompers. Love love love them. They are so easy and fun to wear, because you get all the glam of wearing a dress, but the ease of wearing shorts. I’m so happy my collection keeps growing!

This particular gem happened to come from… yes, you guessed it… Abercrombie & Fitch. I was so excited to find a printed one with amazing sleeves. It’s perfect for summer! They have it in black too, which is just as adorable. I may not have been at Coachella this year (definitely going next time) but throwing on a romper and flower crown at least put me in the festival spirit.

And speaking of flower crowns… I’m giving a sunflower one away this week! This cheerful crown is a Tamera Beardsley Design original, and is so fun to wear for spring and summer. You can bet I’ll be wearing mine all the time!

Happy Friday! For a girl who doesn’t like gin, this week’s recipe definitely won me over. Typically, I’ll choose a cocktail with vodka or tequila, and the gin stays in Elliot’s glass. Since gin and tonics are his go-to, I figured I would try and make something a little more special.

The blackberry and lemons in this cocktail are delightfully fresh and sweet. You can use the lemon juice to your own discretion (I like putting  a little bit more in mine to make it taste more like lemonade).  Also keep in mind that the blackberries need to be muddled very well. If they aren’t broken down enough, you won’t taste as much berry flavor.

Hope you enjoy the recipe and the weekend!

Blackberry Gin Fizz (serves 2)

12 Blackberries

1.5 oz. Lemon Juice

1.5 oz. Simple syrup

4 oz. Gin

8 oz. Club soda

Ice

Lemon and blackberries for garnish

Muddle blackberries and simple syrup in a glass or jar. Add lemon juice, gin, and club soda. Fill two glasses with ice and add the cocktail mixture. Garnish with a lemon slice and blackberries. Cheers!
