As San Diego residents, Elliot + I have developed quite a passion for the local brewery scene. We are always looking for new spots to try, especially ones that unite great design, branding, and beer. On a trip up to Orange County in November, we stumbled upon this new spot that brought together all the right elements. Gunwhale Ales, which is tucked on Randolph Street within the SoBECA district, is a small, well designed brewery where southwestern vibes meet coastal influence.

On a Saturday, the brewery seemed to be the ultimate Orange County young adult scene; even though it was raining, people spilled out onto the patio, taking advantage of every inch in the space.  In addition to a well adorned, mint-accented tasting room, the brewery’s solid lineup of beers makes Gunwhale a spot worth revisiting. The melon hopped Landloper was my personal favorite on the menu, while Elliot opted for an IPA.

Although Gunwhale is the county’s newest brewery, it conveniently sits across the street from another local craft beer spot, Barley Forge. The two spaces are helping to create a mini-craft beer scene in Costa Mesa’s arts district, and are just a stone’s throw away from The Lab & The Camp “anti-malls”. If you’re ever in Orange County, I would highly recommend checking the area out!

Happy happy Friday! I am sure glad this week is coming to a close. Elliot graduates from grad school this weekend, and we are ready to celebrate!

In order to properly kick off the weekend, cocktails are definitely necessary. This week, I had the amazing pleasure of receiving an assortment of kombucha from Health-Ade, one of my favorite kombucha companies! When I saw the Ginger-Lemon flavor, I knew it would be perfect for a mexican kombucha mule. And since I didn’t want to make any regular mule, this one is made with tequila! I love that this mule is a little healthier than most too, since it has all of the benefits of the yummy kombucha. I can’t wait to show you some more of the fun things I do with the other flavors!

Mexican Kombucha Mule

1.5 oz. Silver Tequila

Juice from 1/2 lime

1/2 oz. Simple syrup

3-4 oz. Ginger Lemon Kombucha

Ice

Combine all ingredients in a copper mug. Stir + enjoy!

(Note: If you are a fan of mules that are a little heavier on the ginger spice side like I am, I recommend adding a splash of ginger beer at the end.)

Cheers!

xx

I had the lovely opportunity again to help Jill of Layered Vintage construct a beautiful space for the Darling Dinner in San Diego. Her creative inspiration came from the eight different personas that Darling Magazine has for women (visit their website and find out which one you fit!). Jill created a magical “secret garden” scheme, complete with a wall of climbing vines and intertwined flowers. With the help of numerous vendors, the decor was gorgeous (and dinner + drinks were amazing, too!). I especially loved each intimate lounge area with furniture from Adore Folklore. The color palette and textures made my heart happy!

Happy first Friday of June! I am so happy that summer is on its way. Warm weather and tropical drinks sound wonderful to me.

This week’s cocktail was inspired by The Roc Shop’s brand new line of tropical cocktail accessories! If you haven’t been to the shop yet, you must check it out on Etsy. The new line is launching this Friday, and I’m obsessed! Palm trees, pineapples, and flamingos are everywhere, and I love it.

If you’re in the tropical spirit, then you will LOVE this mojito. It reminds me of one I used to get at The Rooftop Bar in Laguna. It’s pretty much summer perfection. Cheers!

Oh my goodness, you guys. We have officially booked a wedding venue! After being engaged 8 months and looking at countless places (and I seriously mean that), we have found The Casino San Clemente. This is pretty exciting news over here, since at one point it seemed like we would NEVER find one that we all liked.

The Casino San Clemente is officially ours for May 27, 2016. It makes me smile just saying that sentence. We have a real date, a real time, and a REAL place. We knew the place was pretty much perfect when we saw the restaurant sign on the adjoining cafe.. It’s called Ellie’s Table, and that’s about as close to both our names as you can get.

This historic property was built in the 1930s and was used by the Hollywood greats as a dance hall and party place (So no, it is not an actual casino. Think more along the lines of the Casino in Catalina). The venue is perfect for us, since it has two beautiful outdoor patios as well as a gorgeous ballroom with vaulted ceilings. Indoor/outdoor space was definitely on the list of must-haves. I’m in love with the overall white mission/adobe-feel of the place, which will be the perfect backdrop for any decor. The succulents planted around the property are pretty ideal, too.

Now that the place has been picked, it’s time to bring out the wedding binder and start planning this thing. I’m so excited for the next year ahead!
