Happy happy Friday! I am sure glad this week is coming to a close. Elliot graduates from grad school this weekend, and we are ready to celebrate!

In order to properly kick off the weekend, cocktails are definitely necessary. This week, I had the amazing pleasure of receiving an assortment of kombucha from Health-Ade, one of my favorite kombucha companies! When I saw the Ginger-Lemon flavor, I knew it would be perfect for a mexican kombucha mule. And since I didn’t want to make any regular mule, this one is made with tequila! I love that this mule is a little healthier than most too, since it has all of the benefits of the yummy kombucha. I can’t wait to show you some more of the fun things I do with the other flavors!

Mexican Kombucha Mule

1.5 oz. Silver Tequila

Juice from 1/2 lime

1/2 oz. Simple syrup

3-4 oz. Ginger Lemon Kombucha

Ice

Combine all ingredients in a copper mug. Stir + enjoy!

(Note: If you are a fan of mules that are a little heavier on the ginger spice side like I am, I recommend adding a splash of ginger beer at the end.)

Cheers!

Yay for Friday! So, I’m getting a little tired of these gloomy San Diego mornings we tend to be having lately. I’m in the mood for summer weather, beach picnics, and poolside cocktails, but Mother Nature doesn’t seem to be on the same page. None the less, I’m still getting in the summertime spirit with sunny cocktails.

This week, I took a fun retro classic and turned it into a yummy Hard Cherry Limeade cocktail! These maraschino cherries are such a fun addition to the drink, especially since they turn it pink! If you aren’t in the mood to squeeze your own limes for the limeade, you can definitely substitute pre-made limeade or lime juice. This tart and fresh drink will be perfect to sip in the sunshine (hopefully sometime soon!)

Cherry Limeade (serves 1)

Juice of 1 lime

1 oz. Simple syrup

1.5 oz. Vodka

3 Maraschino cherries

1/2 oz. Maraschino cherry juice (from jar)

Club Soda

Ice

Mix  lime juice, simple syrup, vodka, maraschino cherries and cherry juice  in a glass. Add ice and fill the rest of the glass with club soda. Cheers!

Happy Friday! I am so excited for summer to be here. I love the sunshine, picnics, and all of the yummy seasonal fruits. Stone fruits in particular are some of my favorites, and this week I spotted some fresh apricots on sale at my local market! This means that full blown stone fruit season is right around the corner, so this girl is pretty excited.

While at Target last week, I found a lovely little juice company called Wild Poppy, which is actually based right here in California. Their flavors are all unique and sounded like perfect cocktail starters, so I decided to give one a try. The Peach Vanilla flavor made the Stone Fruit Spritzer recipe perfect! Although this might not be a traditional spritzer, the bubbly & lightness of the drink made it  fit in the category quite well. Swap out the vodka for bourbon and you have yourself another great cocktail too. I  will definitely be making a few of these over the long weekend. You can even muddle a few for yourself at home and pack them up for a Memorial Day picnic!

Stone Fruit Spritzer (serves 1)

1/2 of an Apricot

1/2 oz. Simple syrup

1.5 oz. Vodka

3 oz. Wild Poppy Peach Vanilla

Lemon seltzer water

Ice

Muddle the apricot half and simple syrup together in a glass. Add vodka and Peach Vanilla juice, then add ice to the glass. Top off with seltzer water and stir.

Cheers!

Happy Friday! It’s a rainy one here in San Diego, but I actually don’t mind it this time. Since it’s so gloomy out, I thought this refreshing cocktail would bring a little bit of sunshine to the weekend. This Cucumber Collins has a little twist with the edition of the elderflower flavor from the St. Germain. It’s quite delightful, and definitely a must-try for the spring & summer season! Have a lovely weekend!

Cucumber Collins (serves 1)

2 Slices of cucumber

1 oz. Lemon juice

1/2 oz. Simple syrup

1/2 oz. St. Germain Liqueur

2 oz. Gin

Club Soda

Ice

Muddle the cucumbers, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a mixing glass. Add gin and St. Germain. Strain into two glasses filled with ice. Top with club soda, and enjoy!

Elliot and I couldn’t be further apart when it comes to cocktails. I’ll take a margarita or cosmo any day, while he picks anything with gin or whiskey. So, once in awhile, I feel like it’s best to come up with a cocktail that fits his fancy more than mine (which means leaving out the vodka or tequilla.) I really wish I liked whiskey, but I just don’t think I’m cut out for it. However, if you do enjoy a good bourbon cocktail, this one is definitely a must try. It’s Elliot’s favorite drink that we’ve made at home so far, so it’s been officially approved by a bourbon-lover. I figured a spin on an old fashioned might be interesting, and this one was definitely fun to make. The berries and lemon lighten up the drink a bit, making it a tad more summery.

One note on the tart cherry grenadine… if you don’t have the Quince & Apple brand syrup, you can make your own grenadine at home. If you use the regular kind, it will be much too sweet and maraschino cherry-tasting. To make the syrup, just combine 1 cup of dark cherry juice and 1/4 cup sugar in a pan, and bring to a boil. Let the sauce simmer until it reduces to a thick syrup (about 15 minutes). Otherwise, you can omit the grenadine from the recipe all together, and you’ll still have a yummy drink!

For those non-whiskey lovers out there, this recipe can also be converted to a vodka cocktail. Just replace the bourbon with a shot and a half of vodka, and top it off with club soda. Cheers!

Berry Old Fashioned (serves 1)

4 Raspberries

5-7 Blueberries

1 Sugar cube

2 Dashes of bitters

1/2 oz. Lemon juice

1/2 oz. Tart cherry grenadine

2 Shots bourbon

Ice

Muddle berries, sugar cube, and bitters in a glass. Add lemon juice, grenadine, bourbon, and ice. Stir well.
